JEEP SAFARI IN MINNERIYA NATIONAL PARK
One of the best places in Sri Lanka to view elephants is in Minneriya National Park. Because the park is 8890 hectares in size, it can only be explored by jeep. A safari in Minneriya National Park may reveal elephants congregating in groups of up to 350!
Can you picture it? Hundreds of elephants gathered in one place—incredible! From July through September is the ideal time of year to observe the big elephant gathering in Minneriya.
Itinerary
This half-day Minneriya National Park safari will give you the opportunity to witness a large number of Sri Lankan elephants who are attracted to grass fields on the edges of the reservoir during the dry season. The Minneriya tank contributes to sustain a large herd. Elephants gathered here are numbering around 150-200. Some reports account for the number of elephants to be as high as 700.
